Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 7, 2025
Poulamix ("we," "our," or "us") operates the SmartPrint application for macOS (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
We may collect information that you voluntarily provide when using the App, including:
- Contact Information: If you contact our support team, we may collect your name, email address, and the content of your communication.
- Purchase Information: When you subscribe to SmartPrint Pro or make a one-time purchase, payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card numbers, bank account details, or other financial information.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, certain information may be collected automatically, including:
- Device Information: We may collect information about your Mac, including the operating system version, hardware model, and unique device identifiers, solely for the purpose of ensuring compatibility and improving the App experience.
- Usage Data: We may collect anonymized and aggregated usage statistics such as which features are used most frequently, session duration, and general interaction patterns. This data does not identify you personally.
- Crash Reports: If the App crashes, diagnostic data may be collected to help us identify and fix bugs. This data may include the state of the App at the time of the crash, stack traces, and device information.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We want to be explicitly clear about what we do NOT collect:
- We do not collect, read, store, or transmit the contents of any documents, photos, PDFs, or files you print, scan, or process using SmartPrint.
- We do not collect information about your printers, scanner devices, or network configuration beyond what is necessary for the App to discover and connect to your devices locally.
- We do not collect your location data.
- We do not collect your contacts, calendar, or any other personal data from your Mac.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal information to third parties.
2. How We Use Your Information
We may use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain the App: Including printer and scanner discovery on your local network, processing your print jobs locally, and managing your subscription status.
- To improve the App: Analyzing anonymized usage data helps us understand which features are valuable and where we can improve the user experience.
- To provide customer support: If you contact us for help, we use the information you provide to assist you.
- To send communications: We may send you important updates about the App, such as security patches, feature updates, or changes to this Privacy Policy. We will never send unsolicited marketing emails.
- To detect and prevent fraud: We use purchase receipt validation to prevent unauthorized access to Pro features.
3. Local Processing
SmartPrint is designed with privacy at its core. The vast majority of the App's functionality operates entirely on your Mac:
- Printing: Print jobs are sent directly from your Mac to your printer over your local network or USB connection. No document data passes through our servers.
- Scanning: Scanned documents are processed locally on your Mac. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) text extraction is performed using Apple's on-device Vision framework and never leaves your device.
- PDF Processing: All PDF operations (merge, split, compress, lock, watermark, annotate) are performed locally using Apple's PDFKit framework.
- Photo Processing: Photo layout rendering, face detection for passport photos, and image manipulation all occur on your device.
- QR Code Generation: QR codes are generated locally using Apple's Core Image framework.
4. Third-Party Services
The App may use the following third-party services:
- Apple App Store / RevenueCat: For processing in-app purchases and managing subscriptions. Apple's privacy policy governs how they handle your payment information. RevenueCat may receive anonymized purchase data for subscription management. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Apple Crash Reporting: If you opt in to sharing diagnostics with app developers through macOS Settings, Apple may share anonymized crash reports with us.
We do not integrate any advertising networks, social media trackers, or analytics services that track you across other apps or websites.
5. Data Storage and Security
We take the security of your information seriously:
- App preferences and settings are stored locally on your Mac using macOS standard storage mechanisms (UserDefaults and the App Sandbox).
- Print history is stored locally on your device and is not synced to any cloud service.
- The App operates within the macOS App Sandbox, which limits its access to only the files and resources you explicitly grant permission to use.
- All network communication for printer discovery uses standard Bonjour/mDNS protocols on your local network.
- We implement industry-standard security measures to protect any data that is transmitted to our services (e.g., support communications).
6. Data Retention
Since we do not collect document contents or personal files, there is minimal data to retain:
- App data on your device: Stored indefinitely until you delete the App or clear its data. You can reset the App's data at any time through macOS.
- Support communications: Retained for up to 24 months to provide ongoing support and then deleted.
- Anonymized usage analytics: Retained in aggregated form for up to 36 months for product improvement purposes.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your information:
- Access: You can request to know what personal information we hold about you.
- Deletion: You can request that we delete any personal information we hold about you by contacting us at the email address below.
- Opt-Out of Analytics: You can opt out of sharing crash reports and analytics data through macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
- Data Portability: Your documents, scans, and files are always stored locally on your Mac. You maintain full control and ownership of all your content.
- Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw consent for data collection at any time by uninstalling the App.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
9. International Data Transfers
As SmartPrint processes virtually all data locally on your Mac, international data transfers are extremely limited. In the rare cases where data may be transferred (such as support communications or anonymized analytics), we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in compliance with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- The right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold.
- The right to delete personal information held by businesses and by extension, their service providers.
- The right to opt-out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your CCPA rights.
11. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:
- The right to access your personal data.
- The right to rectification of inaccurate personal data.
- The right to erasure of your personal data.
- The right to restrict processing of your personal data.
- The right to data portability.
- The right to object to processing of your personal data.
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Our legal basis for processing your information includes: (a) your consent, (b) performance of a contract (providing the App service), and (c) our legitimate interests in improving the App.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or on our website and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted.
